We deal with the continuous monitoring with satellite data of Earth’s surface, infrastructures, worksites, urban dynamics, or marine coastal areas in support of decision-making and operational activities. We develop on-board software for satellites and data processing solutions for ground segment infrastructures. Our involvement in research and development activities supports the human exploration of the solar system. We develop Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) in compliance with INSPIRE as well as solutions for Smart City and complex systems to support decisions that exploit geographic information and Earth observation data, according to the new paradigms of Cloud and Software As a Service.

Our focus on innovation has recently generated Rheticus®, a cloud platform designed to provide accurate data and real-time information about our changing world for the public and private sectors working to preserve our planet and improve the quality of our lives. This new type of service has led to a decisive transformation of the business model in geo-information services and today represents the synthesis of Planetek Italia’s skills and ability in producing high value-added services.

THE CHALLENGE OF A “Senior EARTH OBSERVATION AND GIS Technical Specialist” AT PLANETEK HELLAS.

As a Senior Earth Observation and GIS Technical Specialist, your mission will be the development of innovative applications and services to support geospatial/remote sensing projects which require the understanding and elaboration of remote sensing data by sing EO/GIS software or developing ad-hoc tools.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • EO and GIS Expertise: Apply your in-depth understanding of EO (SAR, Optical, Hyperspectral) and GIS concepts to analyze and process geospatial data effectively.
  • Software Proficiency: Utilize your proficiency in EO/GIS software applications such as ERDAS Imagine, QGIS, and ArcGIS to manipulate and interpret geospatial datasets.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare technical reports, publications, and proposals related to EO and GIS projects.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leverage relevant libraries and frameworks, such as TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, or scikit-learn, to implement AI solutions for EO data analysis.
  • Utilize your familiarity with EO data formats and tools, such as EO software, to effectively preprocess, manipulate, and analyze EO data.
  • Apply your hands-on experience with EO satellite data, encompassing EO (Optical), SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar), and Hyperspectral data, to derive actionable insights and support decision-making.
  • Employ cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud for efficient EO data processing and analysis, optimizing scalability and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with Data and Information Access Services (DIAS) to facilitate the seamless access and sharing of EO data, ensuring availability to stakeholders.

BACKGROUND and REQUIREMENTS

Academic:

  • Degree in areas such as Surveying Engineering, Forestry, Environment, Geography, Physical Sciences or Geology. 
  • A Master’s degree in Geoinformatics or Computer Vision will be considered an asset.

Other requirements:

  • EO and GIS Knowledge: A solid understanding of EO (Multispectral and SAR data) and GIS concepts, including data management, projections, and metadata
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrable experience in processing and analyzing geospatial data, particularly satellite-derived imagery and AI (ML/DL) implementation. 
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in EO/GIS software applications such as ERDAS Imagine, QGIS, and ArcGIS. 
  • Code Implementation: Scripting and knowledge of spatial libraries

Language skills:

  • Fluency in Greek and English.

Other skills:

  • Ability to multitask with tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills.
  • Communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
