Planetek Academy is an innovative free training course promoted and organized by Planetek Hellas. It is aimed at graduates in scientific disciplines interested in enhancing knowledge and skills useful for accessing job opportunities in the Geomatics and Earth observation sector. In detail, the Academy includes a free course on the development of satellite data processing algorithms in a cloud environment, including one day of theoretical sessions and one day of operational project work.
The best participants will have the opportunity to collaborate professionally with Planetek Hellas and, based on their skills profiles, be included in the development teams of solutions for monitoring the environment, anthropic infrastructures, agriculture, air quality, and climate-altering gases, in hydrogeological mapping and slope stability, and the analysis of the impact of climate change.

THE FREE COURSE
The free course "Processing Satellite Images with Python in Cloud Environment", which lasts two days (16 hours in total), aims to enhance knowledge and skills useful for accessing job opportunities in this sector.
The teaching will be informal and experiential, conducted by specialists and professionals in the sector. It will combine lectures and project work, during which students will collaborate concretely in the practical performance of processing chains in different application areas. At the end of the course, a certificate of participation will be issued to those who have attended the entire training course and completed all the activities envisaged by the program.
Training modules:
- Introduction to Earth observation and principles of Remote Sensing
- Programming in Python of processing algorithms in a cloud environment
Project work:
- Extraction of a burned area
- Extraction of a mask of water bodies
- Extraction of forest areas and waterproofed areas
- Extraction of areas covered by water
Participants are required to bring their own laptop (Windows PC only; no Mac). All the software tools used during the course will be made available to participants in a cloud environment.
WHO IS IT FOR AND HOW TO PARTICIPATE
The Academy is aimed at graduates with skills in various scientific disciplines, such as Aerospace, Computer Science, Remote Sensing, Earth Sciences, Physics, Mathematics, Agriculture, Natural Sciences, and Engineering. Access to the Academy is limited, and Planetek Hellas reserves the right to select the candidates who will be able to access it during the days of 17-18 June.

Criteria adopted in the selection of candidates are:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in technical-scientific disciplines;
- Technical knowledge consistent with the topics covered during the course;
- Application skills in processing environmental data;
- Programming knowledge in Python
- Have completed the free Premium course “Basic Remote Sensing Course” on the EO-Learning platform (send your application and request credentials)
- Fluent English and Greek (at least B2).

All those who apply for the Academy and wish to improve their skills in satellite image processing will be sent the credentials to attend the free Premium course “Basic Remote Sensing Course” provided by the EO-Learning platform (https://eolearning.planetek.it/) developed by Planetek Italia. Having completed the course will be considered an essential element in the selection of candidates.
