DECiSION – Big Data and machine learning to monitor water & sewerage networks

Design and development of a prototype information system capable of analysing big data to provide analytical and forecasting information, which will help decision making in various application and industrial fields.

Funded under the Innonetwork initiative of the Puglia Region, DECiSION (Data-drivEn Customer Service InnovatiON) is an industrial research project aimed at the development of a knowledge and customer service system, based on machine learning and deep learning methodologies.

The DECiSION project goal is the design and development of a prototype information system capable of analysing big data derived from a multitude of sources (satellite data, monitoring data, user supplied data, etc.) to provide analytical and forecasting information, which will help decision making in various application and industrial fields.

The information system will be designed to meet the monitoring needs of water and sewerage companies (MM SpA and Acquedotto Pugliese SpA, which are the users of DECiSION project), mainly to help network maintenance activities and to forecast potential risks for the pipelines (subsidence phenomena in progress, pipe breaks and water leaks, etc.).

Further system capacity will be to build a technological environment able to query repository of structured and textual data through simple questions in natural language, in order to obtain real-time, "complete" and personalized answers on the bases of applicant profile and context data (location, weather info and others).

The DECiSION system will be designed and developed by Sud Sistemi and Planetek Italia with contributions from Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN), Università degli Studi di Bari Aldo Moro, Plurima Software S.R.L., Psyche At Work Srls, Social Key Srl and Evolware Srl.
